The Great Danes will play West Virginia at the Pete Maravich Center on the Baton Rouge campus site, hosted by Louisiana State University (LSU). The winner of UAlbany-West Virginia will take on the victor of 7-seed LSU and 10-seed Georgia Tech for a spot in the Louisville Regional next weekend.
“We are excited for this matchup at a neutral site against West Virginia,” said UAlbany head coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson. “I have a lot of respect for Mike Carey and his team. They are super-athletic, and we will need a good gameplan against them.”
UAlbany earned its way into the NCAA Tournament for the third-straight year after winning its third-consecutive America East title on March 10th, finishing 28-4 with a 15-1 conference record.
West Virginia finished with its first-ever Big 12 regular season title and picked up an at-large bid, coming into the NCAA Tournament at 29-4 and 16-2 in league play.
The Great Danes are seeking their first-ever Division I NCAA Tournament victory, last earning an NCAA win in 1992 during the Division III era.
