Game Notes
ALBANY, N.Y. – UAlbany (1-8) begins America East play this weekend at Bob Ford Field, hosting Hartford (5-2-3) for a 2 p.m. game on Sunday.
Tickets for the UAlbany-Columbia game are $ 7 for general admission and $ 2 for children 12 and under and seniors 65 and over.
In perhaps the best game that UAlbany has played since the season opener, the Great Danes fell to Rhode Island 1-0 on the road to wrap up conference play last Sunday. The lone score came off a corner kick that was headed in by Stephanie Leyh in the 27th minute. In her first start in goal, Jackie Ubert finished with 10 saves for the Great Danes.
In the last meeting, UAlbany fell to Hartford 2-0 on the road on October 7th, 2012 against the Hawks, who were undefeated in conference play. Shayla Bergeron and Casey Marks each had shots on goal for UAlbany, while Amelia Pereira scored both goals for Hartford in the 18th and 76th minutes. Hartford leads the all-time series against UAlbany 10-1-2, but the Great Danes are 1-1 against the Hawks in the last two meetings.
Last season, UAlbany won its first home conference game in a big way, defeating Stony Brook 4-1 at the Plumeri Sports Complex. Maggie DeVerna concluded with a goal and two assists, while Alana Brennan earned her fourth win of the season, saving three shots.
Hartford enters Sunday’s game at 5-2-3 having won its past two games against Central Connecticut and Sacred Heart. A couple of players, junior midfielder Chanel Johnson and senior forward Natasha Douglas, share the team lead of seven points. Two players have shared time in goal: freshman Jessica Jurg has a 0.32 GAA and 23 saves in six starts, while junior Alison Koerkenmeier stands with a 0.68 GAA and 14 saves in four games started.
