Vadnais Named Women’s Field Performer Of The Week

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The University at Albany women’s multis athlete Paige Vadnais was named America East Women’s Field Performer of the Week on Tuesday for her performance at Cornell University’s Upstate Challenge over the weekend.  She shares the recognition this week with Stony Brook’s Olivia Burne in women’s track, UMass Lowell’s Robert Allen in men’s track, and Vermont’s Martin Kallur in men’s field.

Vadnais, a sophomore from Merrick, N.Y., took second place in the pentathlon.  She scored 3,297 points across the five events, improving upon her previous best of 2,949 from her freshman campaign.  Vadnais set personal records in four of the five events: the 60m hurdles, long jump, high jump, and shot put.  She fell just short of setting a personal best in the 800 as well, missing the mark by less than seven tenths of a second.  The point total places Vadnais fifth on UAlbany’s all-time indoor list.

Vadnais is the fifth UAlbany athlete to be honored as performer of the week, joining Alexander Bowen, Chris Buchanan, Silvia Del Fava, and Kathryn Fanning.  The UAlbany program has now had athletes named performer of the week across all four categories with Vadnais winning this week’s women’s field honor.

Next week, UAlbany returns to the Armory in New York City for the Columbia Invitational on Saturday, February 1.  The meet will mark the second of five scheduled trips to the Armory this season.
