Women’s Track Recruit Places Fourth In Canada

Meet Results

KAMLOOPS, B.C. – Canada played host to the U-23 North America, Central American, and Caribbean Championships over the weekend, featuring competitors from across those three territories.  Among the field of athletes was incoming University at Albany recruit Grace Claxton, who was competing for Puerto Rico in the women’s 400-meter dash.

Claxton, who is transferring to UAlbany from Universidad del Sagrado Corazon in Puerto Rico, placed fourth overall in a field of five competitors in the event, finishing with a time of 53.55.  Her time from the weekend would rank first in UAlbany history, a spot currently held by Allison Rogers, who ran 53.92 in 2013.  Claxton’s best overall time at 400-meters is 53.10.

Claxton will be a junior when she arrives on campus and officially joins the UAlbany team with the remainder of her recruiting class, comprised of 45 additional members between the men’s and women’s teams.  She won’t begin competing for the Danes until the first indoor track meet, which will be held in January, 2015.  The program’s first event of the 2014-15 season is the Binghamton Cross Country Invitational on Friday, September 5.
